More Space

Ever since the integration of the Deutsches Filmmuseum into the Deutsches Filminstitut – DIF the project has been developing. The need of redevelopment and modernisation which has been known for years, the wish to extend the public spaces, the redesign of the permanent exhibition and the technical updating of the cinema made a wholistic approach necessary. Consequently, the step towards an up-to-date renewal is taken with regard to architectural as well as programmatical aspects.

The key points of the new filmmuseum are: more generous rooms for new exhibition- and communication-concepts, an architectural connection of the various public spaces, the opening of the building towards the city, as well as an extended programme. Throughout the reconstruction period, aspects such as security, fire safety, and energy efficiency will be up-dated to modern standards.
